Natalie Shippen
Executive Director
Brief info
Natalie is the Executive Director at the Commonwealth Climate and Law Initiative. She leads the organisation’s work to bridge the gap between existing legal frameworks and mainstream understanding of corporate and investor duties to address climate and nature risk. She brings over a decade of environmental law experience across the private, public, non-profit and academic sectors.
Before joining CCLI, she was the global ESG knowledge lawyer at an international law firm, and led the work on fiduciary duties with an environmental law NGO. She also worked on post-Brexit environmental and agricultural legislation in the public sector and taught international environmental law to LLM students. This multidisciplinary experience, combined with her global outlook, has given her first-hand insight into the importance of collaboration to achieve sustainability goals.
Natalie is qualified to practice in the UK and Canada and speaks fluent Japanese. When she's not busy with her two young girls, she's either at the yoga studio (mainly enjoying a lie-down) or attempting to progress her fiction-writing.
