The Commonwealth Climate and Law Initiative (CCLI) has joined the World Benchmarking Alliance (WBA) as an Ally and its Nature Collective Impact Coalition (Nature CIC) as a member.
The WBA measures how the 2,000 most influential companies are impacting people and the planet. Its benchmarks and methodologies serve as a roadmap for companies to understand the changes they need to make to put our planet, societies, and economies on a more sustainable path.
The Alliance
As an Ally, CCLI joins a global community of practice working at local, regional, and international levels to shape the private sector’s contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Alliance is a collaborative and solutions-oriented platform that facilitates cross-sector partnerships, supports the co-development of metrics and accountability tools, and enables knowledge-sharing to scale impactful models of action.
The Nature CIC
CCLI is also proud to join WBA’s Nature CIC, which is its first CIC dedicated to transform companies’ behaviour and reduce nature loss. CIC activities may include engaging directly with companies, producing guidance to support behavioural change, and working with regulators and standard-setters to promote effective legal and policy frameworks.
Through this initiative, CCLI will collaborate with other members and provide legal insights and resources to equip CIC members in their engagement with companies.
“Today’s corporate sustainability landscape can appear fragmented and noisy. For directors, clarity is key. Legal duties offer a stable foundation, helping boards cut through the noise, focus on what truly matters, and act with purpose.
As a WBA Ally and Nature CIC member, we’ll help ensure companies have a clear understanding of what the law requires and allows them to do. This is about enabling boards to navigate risks, shape strategy, and lead with resilience and confidence in an uncertain time.”— Natalie Shippen, Executive Director , Commonwealth Climate and Law Initiative
